Aaron Rodgers’ wallet should be lighter after Ryan Braun suspension
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers should be several million dollars poorer today. And some guy named Todd Sutton should be that much richer.
All because Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun was suspended for 65 games Monday for multiple violations of baseball’s drug policy. And because of a now-deleted bet between Rodgers and Sutton last year.
Back in February 2012, Braun had a 50-game suspension for basically the same charges overturned, with an arbitration panel finding concerns with the way the player’s urine samples were handled. There’s a widespread belief that Braun got off on a technicality.
Rodgers was not one of those people. He went on a Twitter rant at the time in support of his fellow Wisconsin sports star:
MLB and cable sports tried to sully the reputation of an innocent man. Picked the wrong guy to mess with. Truth will set u free #exonerated — Aaron Rodgers (@AaronRodgers12) February 23, 2012
When its guilty until proven innocent, all u need are the facts. #howsthecrowmlb #exonerated — Aaron Rodgers (@AaronRodgers12) February 23, 2012
I’ll let my buddy take it from here. All u idiots talking about technicality open up for some crow too. See if Espn gets pressured not to.. — Aaron Rodgers (@AaronRodgers12) February 23, 2012
...let the people hear the truth. Should get interesting. #exonerated #shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh — Aaron Rodgers (@AaronRodgers12) February 23, 2012
In a now-deleted exchange that you can see above thanks to the folks at Yahoo! Sports, Sutton challenged Rodgers: “you really believe he didn’t [use] PEDs????#delusional”
Rodgers responded: “ya I’d put my salary next year on it.”
Not a peep from Rodgers on Twitter since the Braun news broke Monday. And the only mention on Sutton’s feed has been this retweet:
I love how @toddsutton is too busy vacationing to realize he just won that bet with Aaron Rodgers. — Chris Sampang (@chrissampang) July 23, 2013
And now this:
I seem to have picked up a few followers. Thanks for nearly making my phone explode yesterday. — Todd Sutton (@toddsutton) July 23, 2013
Too bad there’s no way to officially shake hands on Twitter. Maybe it should take the place of the delete function.
