DeMarco Murray, Ray Lewis injured in brutal Cowboys-Ravens game

Dallas running back DeMarco Murray and Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis were among several players injured during the Ravens’ 31-29 victory over the Cowboys on Sunday.

Their status won’t be known until their MRI results are revealed, but the unofficial prognosis was much more optimistic for one of the players than the other.

Murray rushed for 90 yards in the first half before leaving the game with a sprained left foot early in the third quarter.

“We’re going to have to wait and see. ... I don’t know right now,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of Murray’s status for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. “I certainly wouldn’t rule him out, but I know it was significant enough for him to not be out there.”

Apparently, if it had been up to Murray, he would have been returned to the Ravens game. When fellow running back Felix Jones was taken to the locker room because of dehydration, Murray could be seen putting on his gloves in preparation to take the field.

“I was trying to [return], that was their decision,” Murray said of remaining on the sideline. “It’s a long season. It’s only the fifth game, and I have to do what’s best for the team.”

Lewis, a 17-year veteran who is the emotional leader of the Ravens, made a team-high 14 tackles before leaving the game with a triceps injury. Although Ravens officials have said they don’t think it’s that bad, multiple reports are listing the injury as season-ending.

Coach John Harbaugh is expected to address Lewis’ injury, as well as those of cornerback Lardarius Webb and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata at his news conference Monday afternoon.
