Woman watched NASCAR on TV with deceased friend for 18 months

No, it’s not Halloween yet, but it’s easy to understand why you might think so after reading this: Prosecutors in Jackson, Mich., are considering charges against a woman who kept her dead friend inside their home for nearly two years, in part so she could continue to watch NASCAR races on TV with him.

Yes, let me repeat it again so we all understand: Linda Chase kept the dead body of her friend, Charles Zigler, sitting in a chair in the house they shared for 18 months so she could watch NASCAR with him.

“I didn’t want to be alone. He was the only guy who was ever nice to me,” Chase told Michiganlive.com.

Yikes.

Chase, 72, said Zigler, believed to be 68 at the time, died around Christmas 2010. His mummified body was found by police on July 6.

“He just fell asleep and never woke up,” Chase said. She kept him in his chair after he died, and “I would talk to him and watch NASCAR races on television with him.”

“If you knew Charlie, he had the best sense of humor in this whole world,” Chase told the website.

Yeah. Here’s guessing he wasn’t a lot of laughs for the last 18 months.

The body was discovered when, after not hearing from Zigler for some time, family members became concerned and called police. Officers went to the house on July 6 and found his body sitting in a living room chair. A medical examiner has determined Zigler died of natural causes.

“I’m probably going to prison,” Chase said.

Or a mental health facility.
