Lindsey Vonn hoping to delay knee surgery until after Olympics
Lindsey Vonn said she will need reconstructive surgery on her twice-injured right knee but is hoping to delay the procedure until after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Vonn suffered major damage to the knee early this year, recuperated from surgery, then partially tore a reconstructed ligament in a recent training fall.
“So it’s kind of like, might as well see how long it holds up,” she told the Associated Press. “Not a lot of options. In the end, surgery is going to have to happen.”
The defending Olympic downhill champion has returned to the slopes in recent days, skiing super-G runs in Vail, Colo. She said her knee has felt “really good.”
Vonn plans to continue training at Lake Louise, Canada, this week and, if all goes well, compete in races there.
“Just trying to ski solid,” she said. “I’m not trying to do race runs. I’m trying to build into it. Not push it too hard. But I was still able to be able to be aggressive and confident in what I’m doing so that when I get up to Lake Louise I can hopefully have a good feeling right away.”
