Rams beat Seahawks, 9-3, in home opener
The Rams forced a fumble, recovered it and secured a 9-3 victory over the Seahawks in their return to Los Angeles.
Case Keenum finished the game in the victory formation.
Prior to the turnover, Russell Wilson started the drive with a spectacular 53-yard strike to Tyler Lockett, to put the Seahawks on the Rams’ 35-yard line.
But the defensive line stepped up again.
Pressure on first down forced Wilson to shuffle out a pass that fell incomplete, crowd noise backed them up on the next play with Jimmy Graham false starting and then Doug Baldwin caught a five-yard pass.
Wilson completed a five-yard pass to Christine Michael on third down, Mark Barron forced the fumble and Alec Ogletree recovered.
Rams punt, but maintain a six-point lead at two-minute warning
If the Rams are anything on offense, it’s consistent.
Johnny Hekker punted for a sixth time.
Case Keenum was sacked on a third down, but the drive was prolonged with the Seahawks called for a facemask penalty.
There is less than 2 minutes remaining in the game and the Seahawks have the ball on their 12-yard line.
Rams defense makes another stand
It’s been a huge day for the Rams’ defense in their home opener as they’ve shut down the Seahawks offense.
John Ryan punted for a fifth time.
The Seahawks completed a 16-yard pass and 13-yard pass on the drive, and Christine Michael rushed for 13 yards, but the Rams defense forced Russell Wilson into throwing three incomplete passes to end the series.

Next play, Kam Chancellor was called for pass interference trying to cover Lance Kendricks, which moved the Rams up 24 yards.

Rams lead Seahawks, 9-3, in the fourth quarter
Greg Zuerlein kicked a 47-yard field goal and the Rams lead the Seahawks, 9-3, in the fourth quarter.
The scoring drive covered 58 yards in nine plays and took 4:28.
It was perhaps the best looking drive of the season for Case Keenum, who completed a 27-yard pass to Tavon Austin, an eight-yard pass to Brian Quick and an 18-yard pass to Kenny Britt.
The drive stalled when Austin was tackled for a two-yard loss, Keenum rushed for seven yards and his third-down pass intended for Benny Cunninham fell incomplete.
The Rams have yet to score a touchdown through seven quarters this season, but the defense is playing well.

The Coliseum is ready to welcome back the NFL
The Coliseum is set for its first NFL game since Dec. 24, 1994, when the Raiders lost to the Chiefs.
It’s a perfect day for football in Los Angeles, blue skies and 75 degrees.
The doors open in 45 minutes, three hours before kickoff.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are staging in the west end zone and are expected to play at 12:30.
Parking near the Coliseum? Bring cash, and plenty of it
Parking prices are soaring around the Coliseum.
One lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Hoover is charging $180.
Several lots charged $100 during exhibition season games.
If you arrive early enough, there is parking available on USC’s campus for $50. Who would’ve thought that price would be a steal?
Todd Gurley looks to shake off slow start
Todd Gurley is not accustomed to slow starts. In college, he rushed for at least 100 yards in each of his three season-opening games for Georgia.
In his first start for the Rams last season, in Week 4, he ran for 146.
The trend ended last week when the San Francisco 49ers shut down last season’s NFL offensive rookie of the year, limiting Gurley to 47 yards in 17 carries.
So Gurley wants to regain his form on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks at the Coliseum.
“Just stay with it, be patient,” he said
Rookie Jared Goff says he’s ready if his number gets called
Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who was inactive for the season opener, will back up Case Keenum in Sunday’s home opener against the Seattle Seahawks, Coach Jeff Fisher said Friday.
Goff, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, was in a warm-up suit on the sideline during Rams’ 28-0 defeat by the San Francisco 49ers while Sean Mannion served as the backup.
Now Goff is the proverbial “one play away” from making his regular-season debut.
“It’s just prepare the same way every week,” Goff said. “It can happen at any time.
“Obviously, you’re going to support Case, but anything can happen. I’ll be ready if my number’s called.”
Why this coach likely will get a warm reception on Sunday
Listening to Pete Carroll talk this week about the controversial timing of his departure from USC was similar to reading how John Wooden claimed to have known nothing about what Sam Gilbert did to help the UCLA basketball program.
“Had I known what was going on and what was going to come around, I never would have been able to leave,” Carroll said on a conference call.
You wanted to believe him. You really did.
The absence of major championships this decade has reminded Los Angeles of how special Carroll’s USC teams were. The Lakers last won in 2010. The Dodgers are closing in on the three-decade anniversary of their most recent World Series crown.
