Track: Matt Katnik starts with 66-8 1/2 mark in shot put

USC-bound Matt Katnik of St. John Bosco has hopes of reaching 70 feet in the shot put this season, and he began his season on Saturday at the Eagle Invitational at Santa Margarita with a winning mark of 66-8 1/2.

Malik McMorris of Mater Dei was next at 57-11 1/2.

Trevor Reid of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame won the 100 meters in 10.83. Notre Dame’s Anthony Chaidez took the 800 in 1:58.25.

Haley Hopkins, a sophomore from Mater Dei, won the girls’ 100 in 12.53.
