Football: East L.A. Classic is set for Friday matching Garfield against Roosevelt
East L.A. Classic is set
The greatest football rivalry game in Los Angeles is set for Friday night. It’s the East L.A. Classic matching Garfield and Roosevelt at East Los Angeles College.
To say the alumni truly care about who wins is an understatement.
Just ask Garfield Coach Lorenzo Hernandez, whose wife, Martha, is a Garfield grad.
“My wife really doesn’t care about anything else,” he said. “She doesn’t care about Westlake, Alemany, Banning, Narbonne. She just cares about the Classic and Roosevelt. She wants to make sure we win that game.”
Roosevelt has a 41-39-6 lead in the series. Garfield has won five consecutive games and is considered the favorite. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Both schools hold their homecoming at the game.
It’s quite a scene.
