Football: Chatsworth is 4-0 and about to get a lot better
Chatsworth (4-0) could be the team to beat in the West Valley League, though no one will really know until Monday, when sophomore quarterback Tyger Goslin finally becomes eligible after transferring from Westlake and having to sit out the first five games for the Chancellors.
Monday is freedom day for all the athletes who came under the sitout period rule. Goslin has been practicing and standing on the sideline watching and learning during games. It’s asking a lot for a sophomore to immediately step in, but the Chancellors saw his potential in the summer and are getting ready to open up their playbook when he becomes eligible.
In his absence, seniors David Valladares and Jonathan Rangel have helped lead the Chancellors to four consecutive victories. They face a tough challenge on Friday from Golden Valley.
The key to the offense so far has been the running game, led by senior Justin Santos, an All-City player, and junior Tawan Fuches, who had 110 yards rushing in five carries last week in a win over previously unbeaten Jefferson.
Coach Andrew Kim likes what he sees from his team that opens league play next week against Cleveland. Chatsworth should be one of the top seeds in Ciity Section Division II.
And many will be eager to see how quickly Goslin fits in.
