Cross country: Arcadia’s Phillip Rocha wins Division I state title with day’s fastest time
It was a memorable Saturday in Fresno for Phillip Rocha of Arcadia. He streaked to the fastest time of the day at the CIF state cross country championships, winning the Division I race in 14:58. Robert Brandt of Loyola took second in 15:07 and Jake Ogden of Dana Hills was third in 15:11.
Great Oak edged Dana Hills to win the Division I team title. Great Oak also won in Division I girls.
In Division II boys, Brian Zabilski of Saugus edged Michael Teran of Jurupa Hills in 15:07. Teran was just one second behind. Ventura won the team title.
In Division III, junior Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda won in 15:09. Brea won the team team over second-place Agoura.
In Division IV, Caleb Webb of Bear Bear won in 15:04. Bishop Amat won the team title. Xavier Prep won the Division V team title.
In girls, Marissa Williams of Palisades finished second in Division I with a time of 17:02. Fiona O’Keeffe of Davis won in 16:57.
In Division II girls, Amber Gore of Redondo finished first in 17:22. Saugus won the team title. In Division III girls, Palos Verdes won the team title.
In Division IV, Caroline Pietrzyk of Malibu ran 17:35 to win the individual title.
In Division V, Flintridge Prep won the team title.
