Boys’ basketball: Derrick Taylor is returning to Taft as head coach
Derrick Taylor, who built Taft into a City Section basketball powerhouse until leaving for St. John Bosco, is returning as head coach.
“I’m back home,” Taylor said Monday morning by phone from Taft.
He replaces CJ Williams, who resigned.
Taylor won a state title at St. John Bosco two seasons ago. He coached the likes of Jordan Farmar and Larry Drew at Taft, where he won three City Section titles.
He said he plans to use lessons learned during his days at St. John Bosco to help players at Taft.
“I grew as a coach in those four years at St. John Bosco,” said Taylor, who’s a Taft graduate.
