Baseball: Jorge Navarrete hits three home runs to lead Birmingham

Tuning up for next week’s start of West Valley League play, Birmingham received three home runs from Jorge Navarrete in a 5-0 win over Marshall on Thursday.

Ace pitcher Isaac Meza was in top form, improving to 4-0 by striking out nine. Navarrete finished with four RBIs.

Arizona Mountain Ridge 7, El Toro 1: Mountain Ridge won the National Classic championship at Cal State Fullerton. Tristan Thomas had four hits and three RBIs.

Beckman 7, Corona del Mar 1: Jake Groves hit two doubles and finished with four RBIs for Beckman.

Harvard-Westlake 5, IMG Academy 4: The Wolverines advanced to the championship game of the IMG tournament in Florida. Leo Kaplan had a home run and Julian Girod had two RBIs.

Servite 1, Gahr 0: Grant Newton, Aaron Simpson and Mark Woinarowicz combined for the shutout. Servite is 12-3.

Agoura 4, El Dorado 2: Ben Baird and Nick Seyler each had two hits to spark the Chargers. Jesse Lopez had three hits for El Dorado.

Esperanza 5, De La Salle 4: Erick Leef finished with three hits and Haydon Nix had two hits and two RBIs for Esperanza.

Cypress 7, Bishop Amat 0: James Acuna allowed two hits in 5 2/3 innings. Isaak Gutierrez, Isaiah Parra and Anthony Marquez had two hits each.

Temescal Canyon 5, Jurupa Valley 0: In the Darryl Kile tournament, Dylan Alhanati struck out eight and threw a one-hitter.

Newbury Park 6, Tucson 1: Zack Nissim had two RBIs for the Panthers.

Santa Margarita 7, Palm Desert 6: Wyatt Thilken had two hits and three RBIs and also picked up the pitching victory.

Santa Barbara 5, New Mexico Sandia Prep 3: Gavin Swerdloff threw five shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit. Caleb Norton had two hits and two RBIs.

Foothill 10, Merced 0: Matthew O’donoghue threw five shutout innings with nine strikeouts. Cameron Dutcher had a two-run homer and had two hits. Foothill also defeated Righetti, 1-0. Sophomore Ryan Taurek, up from JVs, threw a two-hit shutout. Trevor Lukkes had an RBI double.

Simi Valley 12, Ohio Shaker Heights 2: Timothy Walgren contributed two hits and three RBIs and Blake Shannon added two hits and two RBIs in Arizona.

Moorpark 3, Colorado Mullen 1: Dane Augilar struck out 10 in six innings. Dante Sandoval went three for three. In a second game, Travis Weston threw a no-hitter in Moorpark’s 6-0 win over Arizona Apollo. He struck out 10.

Alemany 5, Royal 4: Noah Cardenas went three for three and freshman Spencer Williams delivered a walk-off single in the eighth.

St. Bonaventure 4, Thousand Oaks 3: Jacob Bravo had the game-winning hit.

Upland 6, Chino Hills 3: Upland improved to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the Baseline League.

Sierra Canyon 12, Enochs 1: Billy Edwards and Jake Patterson each had two hits.

Milken 11, Yeshiva 7: Milken rallied from a 6-0 deficit. Joe Paller and Jaden Pressman had key hits.
