Jarod Lucas becomes Southern Section all-time scoring leader after scoring 52 points
Jarod Lucas of Hacienda Heights Los Altos became the all-time scoring leader in Southern Section basketball history on Thursday night when he finished with 52 points in a 97-58 win over West Covina.
It gives him 3,285 points in his career, passing former Glendora standout Casey Jacobsen.
Lucas, who has signed with Oregon State, is averaging 39.5 points this season. His father, Jeff, is the head coach at Los Altos.
“As a coach and dad, it’s incredible for our family,” Jeff said.
Said Jarod: “It means a lot to me that I did it in front of my home town and playing for my home-town school.”
Lucas scored 101 points in his last two games to break the record in the final game of the regular season on senior night at Los Altos.
It was a night for big offensive outbursts. Sedrick Altman of Colony, a Pepperdine commit, scored a school-record 51 points in an 83-65 win over Alta Loma. It was Colony’s 61st consecutive league victory.
Jaime Jaquez of Camarillo scored 43 points in a 95-51 win over Moorpark. Andrew Wetter added 22 points. Camarillo finished the regular season with a 24-3 overall record and 10-0 mark in league.
Max Cheylov scored 39 points in Calabasas’ 90-75 win over Westlake.
Agoura defeated Oak Park 51-48 to force a 6 p.m. game against Oak Park on Friday to decide a playoff berth.
Campbell Hall upset Brentwood 63-58. Kyle Beedon scored 23 points. Windward defeated Paraclete 62-55. Devin Tillis and Kijani Wright each scored 11 points for 21-5 Windward.
Redondo won the Bay League championship with a 60-46 win over Mira Costa.
In the Mission League tournament, James Keefe made one free throw with 5.8 seconds left to give Loyola a 61-60 win over Chaminade. He finished with 16 points and Mason Butler had 13. Kenneth Simpson Jr. had 22 points for Chaminade.
Loyola will play Harvard-Westlake in Friday’s 8 p.m. final. Harvard-Westlake defeated Sherman Oaks Notre 59-49. Johnny Juzang finished with 23 points and Mason Hooks added 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Crespi defeated Alemany 57-47. Kyle Owens scored 16 points.
University defeated Hamilton 72-61. David Cheatom scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds.
Corona Centennial finished undefeated in the Big VIII League after a 65-45 win over Roosevelt. Paris Dawson scored 22 points.
St. John Bosco earned a share of the Trinity League championship with Mater Dei by defeating Servite 60-48. The Braves are the No. 1 team from the league by virtue of their win over Mater Dei. Chris James scored 13 points.
