Dodgers agree to trade for Adrian Gonzalez, deal awaits approval

The Dodgers are on the verge of completing a blockbuster trade to bring in first baseman Adrian Gonzalez from Boston.

The names of all the parties involved have been agreed upon, a person close to the negotiations said Friday. Though the players to be traded have been in place for days, the deal might not be finalized until Saturday.

The Dodgers would send pitching prospects Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, first baseman James Loney and minor leaguers Jerry Sands and Ivan De Jesus Jr. to Boston.

Coming to the Dodgers with Gonzalez would be right-hander Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford and infielder Nick Punto.

The four players currently have $271 million remaining on their contracts, though the Red Sox might pick up some of it. Major League Baseball has to approve the deal before it can be finalized.

Both Loney and Gonzalez were originally in their team’s lineups Friday, but each was scratched before their games, as was Sands with triple-A Albuquerque.

Crawford and Beckett were both claimed on waivers Friday by the Dodgers. De La Rosa was claimed by another team, so the Dodgers pulled him back and sent him down to double-A Chattanooga. He would have to be included in the deal after the season as a player to be named later.
