Vin Scully to host Joe Torre fundraiser with famed managers
Joe Torre is managing to bring his foundation to Los Angeles big-time.
A fundraising night has been scheduled for June 14 at the Hotel Bel-Air that will be hosted by Vin Scully and feature five managers – Tommy Lasorda, Tony LaRussa, Mike Scioscia, Don Mattingly and Torre.
The “Inside the Game” event is scheduled to include a cocktail reception and dinner, along with an auction to raise funds for the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation.
The foundation sponsors Margaret’s Place, which provides safe rooms in schools and counseling for middle and high school students who are the victims of domestic violence. The program, named after Torre’s mother, was started in New York in 2002, and the “Inside the Game” function is designed to raise funds to expand the program in Los Angeles.
Torre, the former Dodgers and Yankees manager, is currently an executive with Major League Baseball.
The panel of famed managers is scheduled to share memories of their careers and provide insight into baseball.
