Dodgers awarded claim on Adrian Gonzalez; trade talks to follow?
That remote possibility of the Dodgers acquiring four-time All-Star Adrian Gonzalez has at least become slightly less far-flung.
A person familiar with the matter told The Times on Friday that the Dodgers have been awarded the claim on the Red Sox first baseman.
Of course, the Dodgers previously were awarded the claim on Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee and were unable to complete the deal.
The 30-year-old Gonzalez is currently hitting .300 with the Red Sox with 15 home runs and 86 RBI.
For the Dodgers to win the claim on the three-time Gold Glove winner, every team in the American League and every National League team with a worse record than the Dodgers had to pass on him.
The possibility of acquiring Gonzalez and how a trade could be constructed was examined here Thursday.
