Julio Urías continues to roll as Dodgers defeat Giants for 100th win of season

SAN FRANCISCO — Julio Urías stayed on a roll Saturday night.

In a six-inning start during the Dodgers’ 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants, the left-hander gave up just two runs (one earned) while striking out eight, marking his fifth consecutive start of at least six innings and 11th in a row giving up no more than two runs.

Urías leads the National League in earned-run average, lowering his mark on the season to 2.27.

His eight strikeouts were his most in more than a month and were tied for the second most he has had in a start this season.

Final: Dodgers beat Giants 7-2 to reach 100 wins again

SAN FRANCISCO — For the fourth time in the last seven years, the Dodgers are a 100-win team.

The club reached that mark with a 7-2 beatdown of the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, marking their 14th win against the Giants this season — their most in the rivalry since 1979.

Julio Urías pitched six strong innings, giving up just two runs (one earned).

The lineup collected 13 hits, with every starter reaching safely except Gavin Lux, who was returning from a neck injury in his first game since Sept. 1.

And the Dodgers continued to close in on clinching the best record in baseball, keeping a six-game edge on the Houston Astros by improving to 100-44.

Julio Urías goes six innings again in another strong start

Julio Urías stayed on a roll.

In a six-inning start, the left-hander gave up just two runs (one earned) while striking out eight, marking his fifth straight start of at least six innings and 11th in a row giving up no more than two runs.

Urías still leads the National League in ERA, lowering his mark on the season to 2.27.

His eight strikeouts were also his most in more than a month, and were tied for the second-most he’s had in a start this season.

End 7th: Dodgers lead 7-2

Julio Urías gives up homer, but Dodgers get run right back

About the only issue Julio Urías has had of late: Home runs, having given up five in his previous four starts.

In the third inning, Wilmer Flores made it five in Urías’ last six outings, taking the left-hander deep for a solo blast to left-center.

The Dodgers, however, got the run back in the very next inning, with Justin Turner picking up his third hit and second RBI of the night.

Mid 4th: Dodgers lead 7-2

Dodgers extend lead with four-run outburst in third

The Dodgers have quickly pulled away.

Facing Giants reliever Sean Hjelle for a second inning in the third, the middle of the order led off with five straight singles and a walk, keying a four-run rally in which Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Justin Turner and Joey Gallo all picked up RBIs.

Mid 3rd: Dodgers lead 6-1

Trayce Thompson homers again to put Dodgers in front

Trayce Thompson has done two things ever since joining the Dodgers in June. Hit right-handers, and punish mistake pitches.

In the second inning tonight, he did it again, getting a center-cut fastball from Giants right-hander Sean Hjelle and hammering it for a two-run homer to left center.

It is Thompson’s 11th homer with the Dodgers, and his ninth against right-handed pitching.

Mid 2nd: Dodgers lead 2-1

Shaky Dodgers defense gives Giants early lead

SAN FRANCISCO — Julio Urías induced three ground balls in the first inning. His defense couldn’t cleanly convert any of them.

Thairo Estrada led off with a slow roller to third that Max Muncy couldn’t bare-hand (he might not have had time to complete the throw anyway).

After a strikeout, Wilmer Flores hit a potential double-play grounder to short, but Trea Turner booted.

Then, after Estrada stole third, J.D. rolled another ball to short. Turner threw to second baseman Gavin Lux for the first out, but Lux’s throw to first was bounced, with Freddie Freeman unable to scoop it.

It allowed Estrada to score, before the inning finally ended on a pop up to third.

End 1st: Giants lead 1-0

Dodgers relievers nearing return from injuries, but Tony Gonsolin uncertainty lingers

SAN FRANCISCO — Within the next couple weeks, the Dodgers’ bullpen could be back at full strength.

Manager Dave Roberts said Blake Treinen (shoulder) and Brusdar Graterol (elbow) could be activated, with David Price (wrist) close behind them. Meanwhile, Yency Almonte (elbow) is scheduled to go on a rehab assignment next week with triple-A Oklahoma City, where he will need at least a couple appearances.

If all goes well, it would give the Dodgers some long-awaited reinforcements on the back end just in time for the playoffs.

“Guys are doing well,” Roberts said. “They’re all kind of trending in the right direction.”

The team’s starting rotation, however, seems increasingly unlikely to have Tony Gonsolin (forearm) back in a full capacity for October.

The right-hander threw a bullpen session Saturday that Roberts said was “good.” However, the manager also noted that Gonsolin wasn’t back to throwing full intensity, and that it’s becoming “unrealistic” the first-time All-Star will be built all the way back up to where he was pre-injury in time for the playoffs.

Gonsolin is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Monday, then face live hitters after that.

What it all means for Gonsolin’s potential postseason role is unclear. He could still start games, though probably would be limited to fewer innings than usual. He could also come out of the bullpen, perhaps as a bulk reliever.

Roberts has maintained belief that Gonsolin will be able to contribute in some way down the stretch.

But, the clock is ticking to figure out exactly what that will look like.

“The point is, when we get further down the road, what do we have?” Robert said. “The number one thing is get him healthy, get him strong and kind of see where we’re at with that.”

Anderson on paternity leave

The Dodgers placed Tyler Anderson on paternity leave Saturday and recalled Andre Jackson. Roberts said he wasn’t sure how long Anderson might be away from the team.

Lux returns as Urías takes mound

For the first time since Sept. 1, Gavin Lux will be back in the Dodgers’ lineup Saturday. He had missed the last two weeks with a neck injury. Julio Urías (16-7, 2.30 ERA) will take the mound for the Dodgers, while the Giants will counter with a bullpen game beginning with John Brebbia. Here is the Dodgers full lineup:

ICYMI: Dustin May looks like old self, is unhittable in five innings as Dodgers blank Giants

SAN FRANCISCO — The Dodgers were hoping for incremental improvements out of Dustin May on Friday night.

Over five hitless innings, the hard-throwing right-hander delivered much more.

In his best start since he returned from Tommy John surgery last month, May was as clinical as he was overpowering in the Dodgers’ 5-0 win over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.

His fastball command was much more consistent than in his first four starts, as he walked just one batter while finding the strike zone with 40 of 69 pitches.

His secondary stuff was sharper. He used his curveball and changeup to help rack up four strikeouts.
