Final: Dodgers win 2-1 as Craig Kimbrel gets save
He had to strand a couple two-out baserunners, but a night after blowing a save in the 11th inning, Craig Kimbrel got some redemption in the ninth, picking up his 21st save of the season — and first in which he was asked to protect a one-run lead — to seal the Dodgers 2-1 win.
Home runs by Austin Barnes and Max Muncy, plus seven scoreless innings from Tony Gonsolin, helped the Dodgers clinch at least a split in this four-game series.
They are now 81-35 on the season.
Final: Dodgers 2, Brewers 1
Max Muncy homers as Tony Gonsolin completes scoreless start
Max Muncy and Tony Gonsolin are still hot.
Muncy homered in the seventh inning to double the Dodgers lead, giving him his 15th of the season and sixth this month.
Then Tony Gonsolin completed another strong start by getting through seven scoreless innings, lowering his ERA on the season to 2.12.
The Brewers did get a run the next inning against reliever Caleb Ferguson, who issued a pair of two-out walks before Christian Yelich hit an RBI single.
End 8th: Dodgers lead 2-1
Brewers get first hit, but Dodgers open scoring on Austin Barnes home run
The Brewers finally got a couple baserunners against Tony Gonsolin.
Willy Adames drew a walk in the fourth, though Gonsolin quickly erased it with a double-play.
Then Keston Hiura hit a single in the fifth.
Gonsolin, however, stranded that to complete a fifth scoreless inning. Then, in the top of the sixth, the Dodgers finally gave him some run support, courtesy of an Austin Barnes solo home run to left center.
Top 6th: Dodgers lead 1-0
Tony Gonsolin through three perfect innings
Tony Gonsolin is off to a strong start again.
After beginning his previous outing last weekend in Kansas City with five perfect innings, Gonsolin has retired the first nine batters he has faced tonight through three perfect innings.
Over his last three outings, he’s now retired the side in order in 10 of his past 12 innings.
The Dodgers also didn’t have a hit through three innings — they got a pair of walks to lead off the game, but stranded them — until Freddie Freeman hit a leadoff single in the fourth.
In the next at-bat, however, the Brewers turned a highlight-reel double play, with shortstop Willy Adames leaping over Freeman as he slid into second base.
Mid 4th: No score
Tony Gonsolin starts as Dodgers try to bounce back from walk-off loss
MILWAUKEE — A night after losing in walk-off fashion on Craig Kimbrel’s blown save in the 11th inning, the Dodgers will try to bounce back on Wednesday with Tony Gonsolin on the mound.
Gonsolin enters the game with a 14-1 record and 2.24 ERA.
Eric Lauer will start for the Brewers. He has a 8-4 record this year with a 3.64 ERA. He’s also had success against the Dodgers in his career, with a 2.56 ERA in nine previous starts against them.

ICYMI: Craig Kimbrel blows save as Brewers rally to beat Dodgers in 11 innings
MILWAUKEE — At every rocky turn this season, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has backed his embattled veteran closer.
When Craig Kimbrel started struggling in late May, Roberts didn’t waver.
“I’m not concerned,” Roberts said then. “He’s our closer.”
As the right-hander’s slump persisted through June and into July, Roberts didn’t blink.
“Right now, I’m not even considering that,” he reiterated on July 3 when asked if it was time for a change. “He’s earned that.”
