Mr. Rehab, Javy Guerra, has arthroscopic shoulder surgery
Looking back on it now, Javy Guerra had himself one heck of a season.
Now maybe you’re thinking otherwise, what with him starting off 2012 as the team closer, losing that role by early May and ultimately earning a trip back to the minors.
Yet Guerra finished with a 2.60 earned-run average and saved eight games, despite having mid-season knee surgery, returning only to sustain a season-ending oblique injury –- and it turns out, pitching with a bum shoulder.
Yep, injury No. 3 in Guerra’s troubled season emerged when the Dodgers announced Friday he had undergone arthroscopic right shoulder surgery.
Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the 25-minute procedure to clean up bursitis in the AC joint. The Dodgers said Guerra is expected to be able to start throwing again in six weeks and should be able to pitch competitively by the start of spring training.
So now he has to rehab a sore shoulder, while still strengthening his right knee and putting the finishing touches on the recovery of his strained left oblique.
Otherwise, as far as we know, Guerra is a bundle of health.
Guerra, who turned 27 on Halloween, still figures to make the team and give the Dodgers an impressive core of talented relievers in the bullpen – joining Brandon League, Kenley Jansen and Ronald Belisario.
Hopefully his arm will be fresh. He appeared in only one game for the Dodgers after Aug. 18.
