Dodgers still waiting on Zack Greinke
NASHVILLE – Baseball’s winter meetings ended on Thursday morning and Zack Greinke still wasn’t a Dodger.
But he wasn’t a Texas Ranger, either.
General Manager Ned Colletti said he remained uncertain of how the Dodgers’ talks with Greinke would progress or when there could be a resolution.
“I have no idea,” Colletti said.
The Dodgers are waiting on Greinke, but won’t be paralyzed by him. Other than Greinke, the Dodgers have identified two or three other pitchers who could be the No. 2 or 3 pitcher they want. That list is believed to include free agent Anibal Sanchez and potential trade target R.A. Dickey.
Colletti said that if one of their non-Greinke targets becomes available, they could pursue them.
The Dodgers picked up two players in the triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft, selecting utility infielder Elevys Gonzalez of the Pittsburgh Pirates and right-handed reliever Hector Nelo from the Washington Nationals.
Alfredo Silverio, who was on the Dodgers’ triple-A roster, was lost to the Miami Marlins in the major league phase of the draft.
