Matt Kemp has been told the Dodgers have traded him to the San Diego Padres, a person close to Kemp said Thursday morning.

“It’s done,” the source said.

The move didn’t come as a surprise to Kemp, the source said, as the Dodgers were known to be in talks with the Padres this week at baseball’s winter meetings.

“He pretty much figured it,” the source said.

Kemp and backup catcher Tim Federowicz will go to the Padres in exchange for catcher Yasmani Grandal, right-hander Joe Wieland and another pitcher, possibly right-hander Zach Eflin, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Dodgers will also send the Padres about $30 million to cover a portion of the $107 million that remains on Kemp’s contract.

The deal hasn’t been officially announced.

Kemp, 30, is coming off a bounce-back season in which he hit 17 of his 25 home runs after the All-Star break.

Kemp finished second in voting for the National League most valuable player award in 2011, when he made a run at the triple crown by hitting .324 with 39 home runs and 126 runs batted in. He signed an eight-year, $160-million contract that winter.

However, he was limited by injuries over the last two seasons. He underwent a major shoulder operation after playing 106 games in 2012 and ankle surgery after playing 73 games in 2013.

The Dodgers went into this off-season looking to reduce their surplus of outfielders by trading Kemp, Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford.
