Dodgers lose to San Diego, 7-3
San Diego 7, Dodgers 3
AT THE PLATE: Brian Barden, a nonroster infielder who was playing in the Japanese minor leagues last year, had two hits to raise his spring average to .600 in 15 at-bats. Barden, 31, played 119 games with three NL teams from 2007 to 2010 but hit just .211 in 175 at-bats.
ON THE MOUND: Opening Day starter Clayton Kershaw struggled for a third straight time, giving up four runs and seven hits in three-plus innings, sending his spring earned-run average soaring to 9.00. Reliever Matt Guerrier allowed two runs in his only inning, one coming on Cameron Maybin’s solo homer and the other on a walk, a steal, a wild pitch and a passed ball.
EXTRA BASES: Matt Kemp remained hitless for the spring, going 0 for 3 with a strikeout. But he lifted a ball to the wall in center field in his second at-bat that was kept in the ballpark by the wind.
UP NEXT: Dodgers vs. Cleveland, Wednesday at noon PST at Goodyear Ballpark; Dodgers vs. Mexico, Wednesday at noon PST at Camelback Ranch. On the air: Neither game will be broadcast.
