Laguna Beach’s Nolan Naess is Wave League MVP in boys’ basketball
Laguna Beach High junior guard Nolan Naess earned Wave League MVP honors after helping the boys’ basketball team win the league title this season.
First-team all-league honors also went to Breakers senior guards Brooks Hogenauer and Lucas Kravitz, as well as Laguna Beach junior guard Willie Rounaghi.
Fountain Valley junior guard Jeremiah Davis and sophomore guard Roddie Anderson also earned first-team honors, as did Marina senior guard Ethan Barnella and Huntington Beach senior guard Richard Imagawa and senior forward Michael Hennessy.
Naess averaged 19.3 points per game for Laguna Beach (21-8, 6-0 in league). He helped the Breakers earn the No. 3 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs, though they were upset 65-56 at Newhall Hart in the second round.
Rounaghi was second on Laguna Beach in scoring at 10.2 points per game, followed by Kravitz with 10 per contest. Hogenauer averaged 6.9 points per game.
Davis and Anderson helped Fountain Valley (21-10, 4-2), the league runner-up, accomplish a big season. The No. 3-seeded Barons went on to advance to the Division 3A semifinals, the first semifinal berth in program history, before losing 82-70 at No. 2-seeded Indio Shadow Hills.
Fountain Valley, the No. 15 seed in the CIF State Southern California Regional Division III playoffs, earned upsets at No. 2 Gardena and No. 10 Los Angeles Price before falling 78-58 at No. 11 Burbank Providence in the semifinals.
Barnella was a leader for Marina (10-18, 1-5), which tied for third in the four-team league with Huntington Beach (6-21, 1-5). The Vikings failed to make the Division 2A playoffs, as did the Oilers, led by Imagawa and Hennessy, in Division 3A.
