Little girl cries: No more ‘Bronco Bama and Mitt Romney’
Swing state voters have a special, ahem, appreciation of the relentlessness of the presidential race. And no one has epitomized that electoral fatigue quite as graphically as 4-year-old Abigael Evans.
Elizabeth Evans told a TV news team in her Fort Collins, Colo., home that she was listening to NPR on a trip to the grocery store when her daughter began to tear up.
The mother asked Abigael what was wrong and captured the girl’s response on video. “I’m tired of Bronco Bama and Mitt Romney,” she sniffled. And based on the redness of her eyes, the beleaguered little nonvoter had done a fair bit of crying.
NPR got wind of the episode and blogged: “Oh my goodness, do we feel bad now.”
INTERACTIVE: Battleground states map
Colorado citizens of all ages have been bombarded for months with television and radio ads and constant news reports — because they live in one of roughly 10 states that are considered key to the outcome of the presidential race between President Obama and Mitt Romney.
Said the public radio network in its blog post: “On behalf of NPR and all other news outlets, we apologize to Abigael and all the many others who probably feel like her. We must confess, the campaign’s gone on long enough for us, too. Let’s just keep telling ourselves: ‘Only a few more days, only a few more days, only a few more days.’”
Amen.
