Letters: Mayor Garcetti’s priorities

On his first day on the job, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti meets with Hollywood resident Michael Konowitz in his office at City Hall. Konowitz spoke out against the city’s recent crackdown on Lyft, a ride-sharing service opposed by cab companies. "It was amazing," he said. "I wasn't actually expecting to meet with the mayor himself. I was expecting to get a staff member."

Re “Mayor opens door — and ears,” July 2

I am impressed that new L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti has taken time to meet with residents, promising to promote job growth and guide the city’s economic recovery.

However, has he — or anyone — ever considered where the workers, who are the foundation for the city’s development, will live? Given high rents and the construction in many neighborhoods of complexes consisting of mostly pricey condos and apartments, they certainly cannot afford to live within the very city they are supporting.
