Letters: Not these supervisors
Re “Sniping supes,” Opinion, Aug. 6
Jim Newton gets it right in blasting the L.A. County Board of Supervisors for avoiding serious debate on term limits. He also raises a related question: Are the supervisors legislators or chief executives? The county charter is silent on the subject, and none of the supervisors raises the subject.
Who is responsible for the jails, the supervisors or the elected sheriff? Should they be responsible for any corruption by the elected assessor?
It should be clear to anyone who takes the time to examine county government that it is time to seriously consider a major overhaul. But the present board won’t let it happen. Its members are too busy squabbling over term limits.
