#DNC2012: Join Doyle McManus live from Charlotte [Google+ Hangout]
This is a corrected version of the original post; see the note below.
This week has been all about introducing voters to “middle class Mitt,” as Washington columnist Doyle McManus writes in his latest column from the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Meantime, the Democratic National Committee has done its best to point out Mitt Romney’s “flawed” economic policies. At a news conference in Tampa on Wednesday morning, Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland warned that the Romney-Ryan (as in running mate Rep. Paul Ryan) plan would be “a hard right U-turn back to the failed Bush, trickle-down economic policies,” reports the Tampa Bay Times.
Next week it will be President Obama’s turn to step into the spotlight, and to also feel the heat during the Democratic National Convention taking place in Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 4-6. Former President Bill Clinton will speak on Obama’s behalf, as will liberal “superhero” Elizabeth Warren and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Mayor Villaraigosa, who is presiding as chairman of the DNC.
McManus will be covering the DNC as well. On Tuesday, he’ll join readers via video for a half-hour Google+ Hangout at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). The segment will air on the Los Angeles Times homepage and will also be available for replay on the Opinion L.A. blog later in the day. (In case you missed it, here’s McManus’ G+ chat from the RNC.)
Care to join the live chat? Let us know what points you’d bring to the conversation on our Google+ page. We’re especially interested in hearing from people who have thoughts on where Obama’s surge of young voters went. Other possible talking points: Medicare vs. the economy, the Affordable Care Act, and gridlock in Washington. Which issues are most important to you? You need Google+ to participate, as well as working Internet and a Web cam. Participants will be selected well in advance of the Tuesday chat.
Camera-shy? You can still participate in the conversation. If you have a question for McManus, or would like to raise an issue, let us hear it in the comments below.
We look forward to seeing you from the campaign floor.
[Update, added 1:50 p.m., August 31, 2012: The original post listed 1 p.m. PT as when Doyle McManus would host his Google+ Hangout from the DNC Tuesday. It will actually take place at 2 p.m. PT.]
