Second body found after New York speedboat crash

Officials discovered a second body Sunday in the Hudson River north of New York City after a speedboat carrying several people crashed into a barge Friday evening, tossing a bride-to-be and her fiance’s best man overboard.

Officials have not yet formally confirmed either of the bodies’ identities, but they were thought to belong to Lindsey Stewart and Mark Lennon, according to the Associated Press.

A recreational boater discovered the body thought to be Lennon’s on Sunday about a mile downriver from where a woman’s body, thought to be Stewart’s, was discovered Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

“I don’t think you could put words to the fact that what we need to do to console these families, and I don’t know that you can,” Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco III told reporters at the scene, according to YNN-TV.

Four people, including Stewart’s fiance, were injured after the collision with the construction barge. The wedding was reportedly set for Aug. 10.

After the crash, the speedboat’s operator, Jojo John, 35, of Nyack, who was one of those hospitalized, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree vehicular manslaughter and three counts of second-degree vehicular assault.

A sergeant at the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office said officials didn’t have further details to release about the search and the investigation when contacted Sunday afternoon.
