A suspected drunk driver lost control of his fast-moving car and crashed into a Las Vegas bus stop, killing at least four people and injuring eight, authorities said Thursday.

The car, carrying the driver and some passengers, was traveling so fast through the intersection at Decatur Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road that it flew into the air then crashed into the bus stop, Las Vegas police Sgt. Richard Strader told reporters.

The car was traveling east on Spring Mountain about 6:30 a.m. when it bottomed out and went into the air, officials said.

At least four people were killed and eight others were taken to University Medical Center and Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said in a telephone interview with the Los Angeles Times.

Some of the injuries are considered life-threatening, he said.

Strader said the unidentified driver was apparently drunk when he sped through the intersection.

Police said they were still investigating how many people were in the car, but officials said they believe at least two of the dead were passengers.

The driver was among the injured, according to police. He was taken to a hospital for treatment for a collapsed lung and a broken back.

His blood will be tested to determine alcohol content and whether he’ll face charges, police said.
