Graphic: Sales of vinyl LPs rocketed upward in 2013
More and more turntables were spinning in 2013 as vinyl LPs continued a steep upward climb.
New numbers from Nielsen SoundScan show old-fashioned records surging in popularity, no doubt being bought and played by many people far too young to have lived in a pre-CD world.
Evidence of vinyl’s popularity: On Record Store Day 2013, vinyl LP sales hit a historic high, as reported by Billboard. On that day (launched in 2007, by the way, to celebrate the unique culture of the record store), 244,000 LPs were sold, more than any since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
