Greg Orman avoids caucus question again, despite novel approach
Reporting from Olathe, Kansas — For independent candidate Greg Orman the question of his campaign has been whether he will caucus with Democrats or Republicans if he makes it to the Senate. The media haven’t pried an answer from him. But on Tuesday, one interviewer showed it has not been for lack of creative approaches.
“Are you going to give him a wedgie?” morning radio show co-host Danny Boi asked Orman, speaking of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.
Priebus has said it is “impossible” that Orman -- who is challenging GOP incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts -- will align with the GOP because Orman, Republicans believe, is a Democrat in disguise.
“How does this go down?” Boi asked Orman. “Why would you even want to think about hanging out with Reince? He doesn’t look like a cool dude.”
In an exercise in message discipline, Orman dodged again.
“That comment sort of reminds me of the kid who gets tagged out at third base and then says I’m going to take my ball and go home,” Orman said, as he tried to turn the listeners of the show, “Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz,” into voters. “At the end of the day, when we get to Washington we’re going to have to work with both sides and we’re going to let what’s been said in the past stay in the past.”
Boi came up with another toughy: “When did you learn you oozed charisma?,” he asked.
“You know, not until just this moment,” the candidate said.
