Video: Watch: Police say security tape shows Michael Brown committing a robbery
Police on Friday released surveillance video that a police report says shows Ferguson, Mo., shooting victim Michael Brown involved in a strong-arm robbery of a convenience store Saturday shortly before he was shot to death by police in the street.
The video was released Friday morning along with a police report detailing the events police say took place before the shooting. Later Friday, Ferguson’s police chief said the officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Brown, identified as Darren Wilson, did not know at the time that Brown was a suspect in a robbery.
Brown’s family objected to the release of the police report and video, both of which the family’s lawyer calls “piecemeal.”
“There is nothing based on the facts that have been placed before us that can justify the execution-style murder of their child by this police officer as he held his hands up, which is the universal sign of surrender,” the lawyer said in a statement.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said he released the robbery video because the media filed requests for it.
