‘Slender Man’ victim, stabbed 19 times, released from hospital

A cheerful summer filled with cats, loud pop music and probably some French practice await a 12-year-old Wisconsin girl who survived 19 stab wounds allegedly inflicted by a pair of preteens trying to make a sacrifice to a fictional character.

The girl, whose name hasn’t been disclosed by authorities, was released from a Waukesha, Wis., hospital on Friday, six days after the stabbing, her family said in a statement.

“While we have kept discussions about the events of May 31, 2014, with her short, we did ask how she found the strength to crawl out of the woods,” the family said. “Her response was simple: ‘I wanted to live.’ ”

A bicyclist found the bloodied 12-year-old girl a week ago in the middle of a path in Waukesha.

The family described her as a “strong, brave girl” with “a love for life and the dramatic sparkle of any typical 12-year-old girl in her eye.”

Her favorite class is French, which she uses to torment her little brother by using words he doesn’t know, the family said.

She also enjoys annoying her parents by blasting Taylor Swift and Katy Perry music, the family said.

Her two cats are expected to be at her side as she recovers. Her family said she also had planned to volunteer at the local animal shelter this summer, suggesting that those plans have been scrapped.

“Although the sparkle has dimmed for now, we know it will be back again brighter than ever because of the amazing support she has worldwide,” the family said.

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, both 12, have been charged as adults with attempted murder in the attack on their friend and middle-school classmate after inviting her to a sleepover and then luring her into the woods. Waukesha police said one of the girls held down the victim while the other stabbed her in the arms, legs and torso.

The pair had allegedly plotted the attack for months after reading online about a fictional character named Slender Man — a tall, ghostlike figure who shows up in the background of photos from haunted places.

The next court hearing for Geyser and Weier is scheduled for June 11.
