North Florida shooting leaves three dead, two injured
A 72-year-old man went on a deadly shooting rampage Saturday in North Florida, killing three people, including himself, officials said.
Hubert Allen Jr., a longtime employee of Pritchett Trucking, shot and killed former co-workers in and around Lake Butler, according to a statement from the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
Several media outlets have reported that Allen was the stepgrandfather to NFL running back C.J. Spiller, who plays for the Buffalo Bills. Spiller is a native of Lake Butler, according to the National Football League.
Lake Butler is the seat of Union County, Florida’s smallest county, and the sparsely populated area is located about 50 miles southwest of Jacksonville.
Shortly after 9 a.m., Allen arrived at a location owned by Marvin Pritchett, his former boss. Police say he shot and killed Rolando Gonzalez-Delgado, 28, a former co-worker, then fatally shot Pritchett, 80.
Moments later, Allen encountered Lewis Mabrey Jr., 66, a former co-worker who was driving a farm tractor. Allen shot Mabrey with a single bullet following a verbal exchange, according to police. Mabrey was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, police said.
Allen then traveled to the headquarters of Pritchett Trucking Company in Lake Butler, also in Union County, where he shot at a fourth co-worker, David Griffis, 44. Griffis was hospitalized and is in critical condition, police said.
Allen’s rampage ended when he killed himself at his Lake Butler home, police said.
“We ask that you pray for all of the families involved,” said the police statement.
