Northwestern unveils special blood-spatter football uniform design
In its Nov. 16 game against Michigan, Northwestern football players will wear special uniforms as part of the team’s effort to support the Wounded Warrior Project.
Naturally, the uniforms, which are made by Under Armour, skew patriotic. Perhaps not so naturally, they feature what look like blood-spattered American flags.
Proceeds from a post-game auction of the jerseys will benefit the project. But beyond the desire to support wounded warriors, will anyone actually want the jerseys? Social media reaction to their unveiling has been mixed.
“Seems a bit much,” Facebook user Stephen Truog wrote on the Wildcats’ post about the uniforms. “The simple, elegant Northwestern N with the American flag inside was an excellent way to show both patriotism and still have some semblance of the school logo/colors/uniform.”
