Mother defends her son’s KKK Halloween costume
A Virginia mother whose son dressed as a member of the Ku Klux Klan for Halloween said she sees nothing wrong with the costume. In fact, it’s something of a family tradition.
Jessica Black is defending her 7-year-old son’s costume, telling local television station WHSV that her brother also dressed as a Klansman “when he was in kindergarten and when he was 13.”
She said the outfit was her son’s idea. He told WHSV he saw the costume in the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes.”
Black said she warned her son that “there’s going to be people saying bad things about you when you do wear it,” but she thinks there’s nothing wrong with the KKK.
“It’s supposed to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that. That’s what the KKK stands for,” she said.
When the television reporter asked 7-year-old Jackson if he would still wear the costume amid the controversy, he said yes.
