VIDEO: Woman holds flash mob before mastectomy
Sometimes, you just need to dance. And that’s what Deborah Cohan did, moments before a mastectomy.
On Tuesday morning, Cohan organized a flash mob inside an operating room moments before she underwent a bilateral mastectomy.
The six-minute video shows Cohan shimmy and shake to Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied” alongside her medical team dressed in masks and scrubs at San Francisco’s Mount Zion hospital.
Cohan, an OB/GYN and mother of two, also called for friends and family members to
dance to the same tune at the same time, Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., and share the photos and videos.
“I have visions of a healing video montage,” Cohan wrote on her CaringBridge page. “Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies.”
The now-viral video has been making the rounds on social media, and so far, has racked up roughly 700,000 views on YouTube since it was uploaded Tuesday.
The video ends with a round of hugs and thank yous.
“Thank you,” said one medical professional, “for creating this opportunity for us to dance with you.”
