Possible tornado, damaging winds, snow hit California

Parts of California saw rainy, blustery weather Sunday, including a possible tornado that touched down in the Central Valley.

Meanwhile, Southern California saw heavy winds that topped 60 mph in some areas, along with strong surf and snow levels that dropped below 4,000 feet.

Officials said damaging winds would continue into Monday, with some gusts possibly topping 80 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, a “likely tornado” hit Denair, Calif., at about 2 p.m. Sunday. Some damage was reported in the community, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. The department posted photos showing trees down and damage to the roofs of some homes.

A storm moved into Northern California on Sunday, bringing rain, hail and snow to the Sierra. The area was hit by another big storm last week, dumping 20 inches of snow in Mammoth Lakes.
