Wyatt Knight, 56, an actor best known for portraying Tommy Turner in the three “Porky’s” films, committed suicide Oct. 25 in Maui, said Eileen O’Farrell, a family spokeswoman.

An autopsy determined that Knight died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Associated Press reported.

In 2003, Knight underwent a bone-marrow transplant for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and the resulting radiation therapy left him in physical and emotional pain, according to a statement from the family.

“He was tired of the pain and after much contemplation, chose to end his life in a beautiful and a serene place,” the statement said. “His family and friends are devastated.”

Knight was relatively new to acting in 1981 when he appeared in “Porky’s,” a raunchy low-budget comedy about a group of lusty, fun-loving high school boys. He reprised the part in both sequels, “Porky’s II: The Next Day” (1983) and “Porky’s Revenge” (1985).

He went on to appear mainly on television, often in small roles. His made-for-TV movies include “Promised a Miracle” (1988), “Those She Left Behind” (1989) and “Maniac Magee” (2003).

The actor was born Jan. 20, 1955, according to public records. He lived in Los Angeles but had been staying in Kula, Hawaii, for several months.

He is survived by his wife, Silvina, and two children from a previous marriage.
