Fire at Sun Valley business sets off ammunition, injures owner

The owner of a Sun Valley business that supplies movie studios with live and dummy ammunition was injured in a blaze Saturday morning that set off live rounds inside the business, authorities said, forcing firefighters to retreat outside to avoid injury.

The 86-year-old owner of Hollywood Industries was in serious condition after being burned in the fire, said Katherine Main, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters were inside the one-story building in the 10000 block of Elkwood Street when live rounds started to go off.

“That’s when they pulled out of their interior attack and began their defense attack from the outside,” Main said.
