Man who set himself on fire in nail salon not expected to survive
A man who set himself on fire in an Orange County nail salon Sunday suffered burns on more than 70% of his body and is not expected to survive, police said Monday.
Nam Thieu, 46, of Westminster, walked into Creative Nail & Spa about noon Sunday, doused himself with a flammable liquid, and set himself ablaze, Costa Mesa police said.
Thieu was rushed to a local trauma center and was last listed in critical condition, said Costa Mesa police Sgt. Ed Everett.
Authorities said the incident may have been the result of domestic issues between Thieu and store owner Lena Nguyen.
The two were estranged, police told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday. Nguyen is listed as a co-owner of the salon with Toan Nguyen. The two have operated the business since 2010.
The salon suffered minor fire damage. No one answered the phone at the business Monday morning.
