Driver who escaped police pursuit in San Diego is finally arrested — two months later
Police say a man accused of leading officers on a chase through several freeways before ditching the car in downtown San Diego was arrested last week — two months after the pursuit.
Officials say Ahran Haugley, 41, drove off on April 28 when officers approached the Honda Accord in which he was sitting. The pursuit began in La Jolla and ended when the driver pulled into the underground parking garage of a downtown apartment building and ran away.
Haugley was wanted on a warrant, police said.
On Tuesday, police got a report of someone sleeping in a car about 9:30 a.m. on Paseo Montanoso near Camino del Norte. Officers looked through the car window and saw the suspect, later identified as Haugley, sleeping inside with a methamphetamine pipe on his lap, Lt. Scott Wahl said.

He said the car turned out to be stolen.
After a brief struggle, officers took Haugley into custody. He was booked into jail on charges including possession of meth, being under the influence of drugs, vehicle theft and resisting arrest.
The pursuit in April led police across Interstate 5, Interstate 805, state Route 56 and state route 163.
Officers spent nearly two hours searching for Haugley around the apartment complex on F Street between 10th and 9th avenues.
