Bomb squad removes live World War II-era grenade from garage
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad removed a live, World War II-era grenade Monday from the garage of a home in La Crescenta, police said.
The homeowner discovered the grenade in her garage in the 3500 block of Community Avenue at about 10 a.m. and immediately notified authorities, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
The grenade probably belonged to her husband, who was in the U.S. Navy during the war, he said.
The bomb squad examined the grenade and rendered it safe just after 11 a.m. before hauling it away, Lorenz said.
