Woman found blaring the horn of an idling freight train may have been ‘killing time’
A woman may have tried to drive off in a freight train in Victorville last weekend, authorities say, but not without letting her presence be known to area residents.
The piercing echo of the train’s horn drew complaints after it went on for more than 10 minutes about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 16800 block of D Street, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in Victorville.
Deputies arrived in the area to find Shawna Marone, 45, in the driver’s cabin of a BNSF Railway train, sheriff’s spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said.
The train’s engine was running and the horn was still blaring.

“It appears she is a local transient and she might have been looking for shelter or just killing time,” Rodriguez said.
Marone refused to exit the driver’s cabin, but a deputy was able to enter the space through an unlocked door.
She was arrested on suspicion of moving or causing movement of a locomotive, authorities said. She was released later that day. Deputies were still trying to determine whether she had actually moved the train.
Marone was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Rodriguez said.
