Masked gunman, possibly wearing ‘Star Wars’ costume, shoots and kills man in Venice street
A man was fatally shot Wednesday on a Venice street, and the gunman was possibly wearing a “Star Wars” costume, police said.
The gunman walked toward the victim near 7th Avenue and Brooks Court and opened fire with a chrome revolver, Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im said.
The victim, a 30-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Video footage from the scene showed the man’s body lying in the street.
The gunman, described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, fled west on Brooks Court, Im said. He was wearing gray shorts, a black hooded sweatshirt and black glasses, according to LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman.
The gunman was described as wearing a mask, Eisenman said. An initial report indicated the gunman wore a “Star Wars” costume, Im said.
Police briefly detained a person for questioning in connection with the shooting but determined that person was not the attacker, Eisenman said.
