5-year-old boy dies in a Vallejo house fire; at least two other people are injured

A 5-year-old child died and at least two other people were injured in a two-alarm house fire in Vallejo on Sunday morning.

Firefighters received a report of a fire at 827 Stella St. shortly before 10 a.m., according to a statement from the Vallejo Fire Department. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-family home and several neighbors trying to rescue someone who was trapped inside.

As a second alarm was called, firefighters mounted an "aggressive interior attack" and tried to reach the person, who was believed to be inside a back bedroom that was fully engulfed in flames. Though the fire was quickly extinguished, the victim, identified by the Associated Press as a 5-year-old boy, died.

Firefighters encountered two other injured occupants in front of the home. A woman suffered second- and third-degree burns and a teenage male suffered minor burns, according to the statement. Both were taken to Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center. Their identities weren't released.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was underway Sunday night.
