Sailor accused of fatally stabbing girlfriend, then leading police pursuit
A Navy sailor was arrested Monday on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend to death after he led authorities on a lengthy pursuit from San Diego to Riverside.
Riverside police began searching for Jared Bischoff, 25, on Sunday evening after his girlfriend, who has not been identified, was found lying in the street unconscious with multiple stab wounds, according to Det. Adrian Tillett.
Police learned Bischoff met his girlfriend about 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Calmhill Drive and California Avenue in Riverside and stabbed her, he said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where she died.
At about 5 a.m. Monday, San Diego police spotted Bischoff driving around their city.
According to Riverside police, Bischoff led officers on a pursuit through San Diego and to the 15 Freeway. Then the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, which continued onto the 91 Freeway toward Riverside.
Bischoff exited at Madison Avenue and began driving on city streets in Riverside.
He finally stopped in the area of Rubidoux and Grand avenues, where he surrendered peacefully, police said.
According to the U.S. Navy, Bischoff, a Riverside resident, enlisted in February 2013. He was an aviation boatswain’s mate 3rd Class, tasked with maintaining fueling systems.
