Man shot daughter and then killed himself in Torrance apartment, police say
A 78-year-old man shot his 48-year-old daughter and then killed himself in a Torrance apartment Sunday night, authorities said.
The deceased were identified as Robert Howard and Tatiana Alexandria Howard.
Two other family members at the residence witnessed Robert Howard shoot his daughter with a handgun and contacted police at 9:17 p.m. Officers responded immediately to the call in the 100 block of Palos Verdes Boulevard. As they arrived, they heard the final shot that killed Robert Howard, said Torrance police Sgt. Paul Kranke.
“They were out front trying to figure out what was going on when they heard the gunshot,” Kranke said.
Officers then made entry into the apartment, where they found the man and woman dead.
The relatives said they had been visiting Robert Howard, who lived at the apartment by himself, when a family dispute led to the shooting.
Detectives are no longer collecting evidence from the crime scene, but the investigation is ongoing.
