UCLA’s Nick Pasquale was legally drunk when killed, authorities say
UCLA football player Nick Pasquale, who was hit and killed by car in San Clemente in September, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.26%, more than three times the legal limit in California, authorities said Friday.
The Times’ Chris Foster is reporting that Pasquale, a walk-on receiver, tested negative for drugs, however, and, according to Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, there was no way to determine whether the 20-year-old’s blood alcohol level was a contributing factor in the accident.
Pasquale was walking home from a friend’s house in San Clemente at the time of the accident.
The cause of his death was blunt-force trauma, said Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver of the car, who called authorities and waited for their arrival, was questioned but not detained.
Pasquale came to UCLA last season and was a popular member of the team. He played briefly in the season opener against Nevada and his No. 36 is painted on the Rose Bowl field at the spot where he lined up.
