Boy, 12, fatally struck by pickup in Tustin had run away from home
The 12-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a pickup in Tustin on Friday night was autistic and had run away, police said.
The crash occurred about 8 p.m. on Jamboree Road just north of Champion Way — a major roadway near where the boy lived, Tustin Police Sgt. Andy Birozy said.
Minutes before, police had received a call of a missing child and were looking for the boy, Birozy said.
The injured boy was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The driver, an adult male, was cooperating with police, Birozy said. He said drugs and alcohol were not involved, nor was speed.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Tustin Police Department at (714) 573-3200.
