Drunk driving arrests down this holiday weekend
Preliminary statistics from the California Highway Patrol showed fewer drunk driving arrests over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend than during the same period last year.
Between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Saturday, highway patrol officers arrested 724 people on suspicion of driving under the influence statewide and 158 in Los Angeles County. Over the same period last year, there were 840 such arrests statewide and 186 in Los Angeles County.
Two people were killed in car crashes in Los Angeles County between Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, and seven died in collisions statewide. Last year over the same period, there were 11 traffic deaths on highways statewide, but none in Los Angeles County.
CHP officials are still tallying statistics for the remainder of the weekend.
